Our friends at the Fiscal Policy Institute (FPI) have asked that we share this survey with community-based organizations, service providers, and others who will be working on the 2020 census in New York State. FPI is asking CBO's in New York to help us estimate the amount of funding they would need to conduct 2020 census education, outreach, and assistance programs.
The survey responses will help FPI estimate how much New York State should include in the state budget to help community-based organizations do census work that will ensure a complete count of all New Yorkers in 2020. FPI is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit research and education organization committed to improving public policies and private practices to better the economic and social conditions of all New Yorkers.
According to FPI, CBOs are important in helping the census count every decade, but there is good reason to believe this will be especially important in 2020. Trust in government is at a low point, and controversies around the census itself have made it likely that increased outreach by trusted organizations will be necessary to ensure a full count of all New Yorkers.
Please share this survey with your partner organizations or others who have done Census work in the past or are interested in doing census work in the future to reach as accurate an estimate as possible. NY Counts 2020 has also developed a questionnaire to help guide your answers to the survey.
Thank you for your help!
